The DSP said ego issue was the reason behind the double murder as two groups of the village youths were claiming to be leaders of the villagers for years. The DSP said both groups were also involved in verbal duels off and on.

The victim along with their other relatives Mandeep Singh and Gurwinder Singh were on their way back to their farmhouse on Tuesday in late hours when the accused armed with dread weapons stopped them.

The accused opened firing on them. Lakhbir Singh and Amritpal Singh received bullet injuries on the chests and fell down. They were rushed to hospital where the doctors declared them dead.

A postmortem on the bodies was conducted at the Civil Hospital on Wednesday. A case under Sections 302, 148 and 149 of the IPC and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act was registered against the accused by Verowal police. OC
