Deepanika Gupta, a student of DAV International School, and Gaurang Arora of DAV Public School, Lawrence Road, jointly stood first in the district by scoring 99.2 per cent marks in Class XII.
Deepanika is from non-medical stream and Gaurang is from commerce stream.
She bagged the top position in the district for the second time in the board exams as she was also the district topper two years ago in CBSE Class X exams. An aspiring software engineer, Deepanika comes from a family of educators. Her father Amardeep Gupta is the Principal of DAV College, Dasuya, and her mother Jijina Mahajan is a professor at BBKDAV College in the city. Expressing happiness over her achievement, she said she made her grandmother proud and would celebrate with her.
Her grandmother, Nirmal Gupta (77), couldn’t contain her happiness. “I feel like performing gidda as our daughter has made us so proud. She always focused towards her goal and now I want to see her achieve many more accomplishments,” she added.
Coming from a business family, Gaurang wants to study at the Bangalore University and become a chartered accountant. “I am happy that normalcy has returned to education after two years of pandemic. I tried to balance studies and other activities while I prepared for boards,” he said.
They were followed by kathak dancer Lovisha Mahajan of Bhavan’s SL Public School and Diya Mittal of Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, GT Road, who stood jointly second with 99 per cent marks. Nitya Mehra of Shri Ram Ashram School from medical stream also came second with 99 per cent.
Dancing is Lovisha’s passion, but she wants to become a neurosurgeon. She says she is confident that she can do both.
Her father Raman Mahajan has a printing press and her mother Shivani Mahajan is a homemaker. A student of traditional science subject, she opted for liberal arts as well for her interest in dance.
Lasya Sandhu of Senior Study II and daughter of GNDU Vice-Chancellor Prof Jaspal Singh Sandhu secured first position in her school along with Harmanjit Singh, who also scored 98.6 per cent in non-medical stream.
The CBSE this year has not released any merit list for Class XII and X.
