ASI Harpal Singh, posted at the Chabal police station, said the accused have been identified as Murti, alias Sibo, alias Bhano, a resident of Jolia village (Sangrur), and Preeto, alias Heero, a resident of Jakhar Road area, Sunam (Sangrur).

Sarabdyal Singh, manager of the gurdwara, said a gang of five members, including two women, entered the gurdwara and played a drama at the place where a devotee, Gurnam Singh, resident of the Verka-Vallha bypass, Khankot, was standing wearing the gold kara in his arm. The accused pickpockets removed the kara from his arm and handed it over to his male associate who managed to escape from the spot.

ASI Harpal Singh said the accused have been booked under Sections 304 and 112 of the BNS. The accused were produced in a court here on Thursday and the court sent them to police custody for three days. The ASI said this type of gang often enters the premises of religious places to pick gold ornaments.
