2 youths admitted to de-addiction centre
In a significant step towards curbing drug addiction, the Punjab Police today admitted two youths, a young man and a woman, to a de-addiction centre after they were found lying on roadside in the Maqboolpura area. The initiative was taken under the supervision of Additional Deputy Police Commissioner (ADCP) Harpal Singh, who confirmed that the boy belonged to Chattiwind village and both were addicted to drugs.
According to reports, stringent measures against drug peddlers by the Punjab Police have disrupted the supply of narcotics, leaving addicts in distress. Maqboolpura, infamous for drug trafficking, has been a hub for narcotics-related activities, attracting addicts from various places seeking substance abuse.
ADCP Harpal Singh emphasised that the ongoing crackdowns had led to imprisonment of numerous drug peddlers in the region, making drugs inaccessible to users. The two youths collapsed due to withdrawal effects as they were unable to get drugs, he said. Upon receiving information about their condition, the police promptly reached the spot and provided them assistance, he said.
The young man and woman expressed their willingness to undergo treatment and overcome their addiction, the ADCP said. Acknowledging their plea, the police facilitated their admission to drug de-addiction centre at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, while ensuring they received proper medical care and counselling, he said.
