200 examined at medical camp

Amritsar: A free medical check-up camp was organised by Medicaid Hospital in association with various local NGOs here on Sunday. Over 200 patients were examined during the camp. The event was organised in association with the Rotary Club, Ficci Flo, Voice of Amritsar and Alliance group. Chief guest Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh, MLA, Amritsar North, lauded the role of NGOs for their social work. Among others Dr PS Grover and Dr Ravneet Singh were also present in the camp. TNS

Wheelchairs given to needy

Amritsar: Voice of Amritsar, a local NGO, has come to the help of 20 destitute persons living in “Hind Di Chadar” old age home at Baba Bakala. The NGO on Sunday provided wheelchairs, bed-sheets and other items to the inmates. NGO president Neeta Mehra said Dr Neeraj Bhatia, senior medical officer, Baba Bakala, who had been active in helping the inmates, was also present. She said more people should help the needy in society so that no one is forced to live in miserable conditions. TNS

Seminar on heart diseases in kids

Amritsar: Health experts on Sunday stressed the need for creating awareness about heart problems in newborns and stated that timely detection could help in saving the lives of children before the disease progresses. Dr Ashutosh Marwaha, senior consultant, paediatric cardiology, Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi, said, “Sometimes a newborn has a heart problem, which is not detected until it increases.” Dr Ashutosh Marwah said they had often heard about congenital heart diseases, but there was not much awareness about it among people. Body of newborn girl found in dump

Tarn Taran: The city police found the body of a newborn girl from a garbage dump along the Sachkhand road on Saturday. The body was wrapped in a plastic bag, which was witnessed by a MC sanitation worker, Nindi. He informed the police about the child. ASI Narinder Singh said the police had registered a case under Section 318 of the IPC.
