201 FIRs filed in Muktsar this harvesting season

The district police registered 201 FIRs against those who burnt paddy straw this harvesting season. Further, 63 challans were produced in the court and 13 farmers penalised.

Jasmeet Singh, DSP (Major Crimes), Muktsar, said, “The district police have acted tough with those who violated the ban orders issued by the District Magistrate under Section 144 of the CrPC.” MK Aravind Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Muktsar, has directed officials of the Agriculture Department to prepare a list of those farmers who got the subsidy on stubble management equipment and still burnt the paddy stubble in their fields.

Meanwhile, Baljinder Singh Brar, Chief Agriculture Officer, Muktsar, said, “Our team has come back from Sriganganagar district in Rajasthan and found that locust attack there was under control. Farmers need not worry about it. Further, the locust attack took place more than 150 km from here.” He fsaid the department officials were alert and still keeping a vigil in fields located on the border of Rajasthan. — TNS
