3 held with 5-kg heroin, revolver from Ajnala
The Amritsar Rural Police have confiscated 5 kg of heroin along with a revolver from three persons while two of their accomplices managed to flee the spot.
Those arrested were identified as Makha Singh of Bhura Kona village in Khemkaran (Tarn Taran), Sajjan Singh of Killi Nau Abad in Zeera (Ferozepur) and William Masih of Jodia Khurd village in Dera Baba Nanak in Batala.
Their accomplices Harpal Singh, alias Bhala, and Gursewak Singh, aka Sewak, absconded from the spot. Harinder Singh Gill, SP (Investigations), said raids were on to nab them.
Giving details, the SP said during the checking of vehicles in Ajnala, a team of the Amritsar Rural Police signalled a car to stop. On seeing the police team at the checkpoint, the car stopped at a distance from the naka and two youths came out of the car and run away. However, the police took prompt action and nabbed three occupants of the car. During search, the police found the contraband and a revolver. The accused could not produce any documents regarding the revolver. The police also seized three mobile phones from them.
As per preliminary investigations, out of three arrested by the police, two were farmers having their lands just close to the Pakistan border. All accused were new in the illegal drug trade. The police said the accused were produced in a court and brought on police remand for further investigations.
The probe revealed that Harpal Singh was the kingpin of the racket. He said there was no previous record of those arrested and that of those absconding. The police were still investigating the case.
A case under the NDPS Act and the Arms Act was registered against the accused. They were produced in a court and brought on police remand for further interrogation.
