Road accident led to a traffic jam on the flyover for half an hour
In a tragic road accident, three persons, including a woman, lost their lives when their motorcycle collided with a truck trailer that suddenly started reversing after its driver lost control of it here on Friday night.
The deceased have been identified as Sunny (27) of Nehru Colony, Raman (22) of Pal Avenue and his mother Geeta (43). The police said the incident took place around 11 pm on Ram Tirath Road near the Ajnala bypass flyover.
According to the police, the truck trailer was going from Mahal village to the Ajnala bypass when its driver lost control of it while climbing a flyover and it started reversing leading to the road accident. The motorcycle-borne victims, who were following the trailer, could not stop in time and collided with it. They were run over by the tractor trailer, resulting in their death on the spot.
The accident led to a traffic jam on the flyover for around half an hour. Police teams led by the SHO, Cantonment police, reached the spot and started a probe.
“All the three victims died on the spot,” said a police official. Passersby caught the truck trailer driver and handed him over to the police.
The police have taken the truck driver into custody and initiated an investigation into the matter. The bodies were sent for a post-mortem. A case has been registered against the driver and further probe is underway.
