With the arrest of three robbers, the city police on Friday claimed to have busted a gang who used to rob people by detaining them in their houses. Six of their accomplices were yet to be arrested.

With their arrest, the local police claimed to have cracked the robbery in which around 12 armed persons had entered a house and decamped with cash and valuables after detaining the family members in Dashmesh Nagar locality in Kot Khalsa area on December 28.

Those arrested were identified as Shankar, Kabbu, both residents of Fatehabad (Tarn Taran), and Shekhar of Muradpura village in Tarn Taran. The police also confiscated a mobile phone, two swords and a stick from their possession.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Narinder Singh said they, along with Rahul of Noori Mohalla, Gikko of Ramdev Colony in Tarn Taran, Suraj of Boje village, Tokra, Mehnga, Shambhu, all residents of Tarn Taran, had committed the dacoity.

The complainant, Manpreet Singh, had informed the police that on the intervening night of December 27-28, around 12 persons armed with sticks and swords entered their house, locked the main door and detained them in the drawing room. They thrashed them brutally before decamping with Rs 2.5 lakh, gold ornaments worth lakhs, two mobile phones and clothes from the house.

Sukhwinder Singh, in charge, CIA staff, said similar incidents were reported from Himachal Pradesh also in which this gang was involved. By the time police teams reached jhuggian (shanties) at Tarn Taran, they fled with their huts. He said raids were on to nab the remaining accused.
