Amritsar, July 29
A speeding school bus crushed three persons and injured one, all riding a bike, at Punga village in Ajnala here on Monday. Three members of a family, including a four-year-old girl, were killed on the spot. A woman, who was seriously injured, was admitted to the Civil Hospital at Ajnala.
The deceased have been identified as Hira Masih, Sunita and Seerat, residents of Punga village in Ajnala. The injured woman has been identified as Satti Kaur.
Were on their way to give sawan gifts
- Yousaf, a relative of the victim family, said Hira Masih, a resident of Punga village, had left his house for Ajnala with his mother Sunita and sister-in-law Satti Kaur and her daughter Seerat on a bike.
- They were going to Motala village to give gifts of “Sawan month” to Hira’s fianceacute;e. As soon as they came out of the village, a speeding bus of a private school hit the bike of Hira Masih while overtaking him
Yousaf, a relative of the victim family, stated that on Monday afternoon, Hira Masih, a resident of Punga village, had left his house for Ajnala with his mother Sunita and sister-in-law Satti Kaur and her daughter Seerat on a bike.
They were going to Motala village to give gifts of “Sawan month” to Hira’s fianceacute;e. As soon as they came out of the village, a speeding bus of a private school hit the bike of Hira Masih while overtaking him. Owing to the high speed of the bus, three of them were badly crushed, while Satti Kaur was injured.
When the bus driver saw them in a pitiable condition, he fled the spot leaving behind the bus. Some passers-by took the injured and the deceased in the same bus to the Civil Hospital.
After the accident, angry family members first hurled stones at the bus and then tried to set it on fire. But people present on the spot intervened and asked the family members to lodge a complaint with the police in this regard.
Lakhwinder Singh, SHO, Ajnala police station, said a case has been registered against the bus driver. Investigation in the case is underway.
