300 participate in painting contest held on Children's Day in Amritsar

The Indian Academy of Fine Arts (IAFA) today marked the Children’s Day by hosting an on-the-spot painting competition for kids. As many as 300 children from 30 schools of the district participated in the competition. The students competed in five different categories during the competition.

Rajinder Mohan Singh Chinna, Chairman, IAFA, awarded prizes and certificated to winners and called for encouraging creative expression among children.

“The stress that students go through in their schools, especially academic stress, needs a creative outlet. By encouraging art of any genre among children, we are giving them a skill as well as a platform to express themselves. It shows that when creativity is nurtured, it brings out the best artistic expression. It is heartening to see some of these works of art done by children, who have turned to their artistic and creative side,” he said.

A special programme “Together for children” was organised during which underprivileged and children with special needs celebrated the Children’s Day by participating in painting, storytelling and entertaining acts.

Art Gallery general secretary Dr PS Grover said, “A series of art activities are being organised during the national art exhibition at the Art Gallery. The children, who participated in the competition today, can come and take part in art workshops and demonstrations of senior artists including Narinder Singh and others.”
