4 accomplices of gangster held

Four associates of gangster Happy Jatt in custody of the Amritsar (Rural) police on Sunday.

Four days after the Jandiala police booked gangster-turned-cross-border smuggler Harpreet Singh, alias Happy Jatt, for demanding extortion from a local trader, the Amritsar (Rural) police arrested his four accomplices in this connection.

Those arrested were identified as Lovepreet Singh, alias Love, of Jotisar Colony, Jandiala, Navjot Singh of Jandiala, Navjot Singh of Jagatpura village and Rajbir Singh of Khalchian.

They were arrested in connection with a case in which Happy Jatt had demanded extortion from Heera Lal, a resident of Rayya. The victim runs an utensil shop. Heera Lal said he got a call from a virtual number in which the caller identified himself as Happy Jatt and demanded money from him. The victim said the caller threatened to kill him and his family in case he failed to give money.

A case under Section 308 (4) was registered against Happy Jatt following victim’s complaint. Mukhtiar Singh, SHO, Jandiala Guru police station, said after preliminary probe, Happy Jatt’s accomplices were identified and arrested by the police.
