Amritsar: The Amritsar Central Jail authorities confiscated four mobile phones from high security complex and booked two prisoners in this connection. Sukhdev Singh, assistant superintendent of central jail, said during checking of room number 6 of barrack number 4, the staff found a Redmi touch mobile phone with Idea SIM from the possession of an inmate, identified as Jasbir Singh of Anngarh area. An unclaimed smart mobile phone with SIM was recovered from the dustbin of the room. Similarly, another unclaimed mobile phone was seized from outside the window. The jail official told that a mobile phone was found during the checking of another prisoner Jagmeet Singh of Gurdaspur from the gate of de-addiction centre inside the jail complex. According to the police, two FIRs under Sections 42 and 52- A of the Prisons Act had been registered. TNS

Power plant staff protest

Amritsar: Members of the Punjab Raj Bijli Board Technical Services Union held a protest rally and burnt an effigy of the Capt Amarinder Singh government here on Friday. The protesting members were protesting against the government for its alleged move to sell off land of the thermal power plant in Bathinda. They raised slogans against the government for its alleged anti-employee policies. They particularly attacked Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal for the move. They stated that these steps would eventually devoid the state and its major departments of assets. They said the government was selling the plant's 1,768 acres of land for peanuts and that, too, after investing crores of rupees on it. TNS
