Punjab Education Minister Harjot Bains recently announced the launching of “School of Applied Learning” to make students skilled in vocations other than core subjects. Forty schools in the state have been selected as a pilot project and around 2,000 students will be admitted in the first batch.

The Education Minister stressed that the focus was on imparting education keeping future in mind with focus on employment-oriented courses. Bains said the 11th graders will be taught subjects such as baking, financial services, insurance, digital design, healthcare science and wellness in beauty.

The minister also informed that out of 19,000 schools in Punjab, development work was going on in about 18,000 schools.

He also underlined the support programme for students by Punjab government including the ISRO visit and student exchange programme with Japan. He also talked of easing pressure on students ahead of Board exams, making an appeal to parents not to put too much pressure on their children. He also shared that teachers in schools have been asked to set up counselling sessions for students.
