550 attend anaesthesiology meet

A three-day national conference organised by the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA) was formally inaugurated at Government Medical College here on Saturday.

The conference began on Friday with around 550 delegates from medical institutes in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu Kashmir and Delhi attending the event.

The event witnessed presentation of research papers and posters besides panel discussions on various issues. In an important panel discussion on rising incidents of violence against doctors, IG Rupinder Singh of Rajasthan and Commissioner of Police Amritsar Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill were also present.

Dr Murlidhar Joshi, national president of the ISA, said violence against doctors was a serious issue. The society as a whole needs to find a remedy so that doctors can feel safe while treating patients, he said. Dr Naveen Malhotra, national secretary of the ISA, said the event was proving boon for physicians, especially young who would benefit immensely from the research and experiences of seniors presented during discussions and lectures.

Head of department Dr Veena Chatrath and organising secretary Dr JP Attri said that a fitness campaign and flag ceremony was also organised early in the day. — TNS
