6 illegal vendors caught selling goods in train

During a special drive, railway ticket checking staff found six passengers travelling without tickets in the Nangal Dam-Amritsar express. On the other hand, the railway authorities have been laying stress on getting their tickets booked through an app.
As per the instructions of the Railway Board and the head office, a special drive is being run for a week to check and curb unauthorized vending in trains. The Railways continuously monitors trains to ensure that passengers get high quality food items in trains.
Today, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Paramdeep Singh Saini along with RPF staff conducted a special check in train number 14506 (Nangal Dam-Amritsar Express) to curb unauthorized vending. During the checking, Commercial Inspector, Jalandhar city, Rajesh Dhiman and Nitesh and RPF staff as well as ticket checking staff were also present with him.
During the checking, six unauthorised vendors were caught in the train. They were handed over to the RPF under Section 144 of the Railway Act for further punitive action against them. If any unauthorised vendor sells any goods in a train or any part of the train, then under Section 144 of the Railway Act, he is liable to be fined Rs 2,000 or imprisoned for one year or both. He appealed to the railway passengers not to buy anything from unauthoriszed vendors.
The Senior Divisional Commercial Manager interacted with railway passengers and made them aware of the “UTS on Mobile” app. In the Nangal Dam-Amritsar Express, the “UTS on Mobile” app was downloaded in the mobile phones of 10 railway passengers. He appealed to the railway passengers that they can easily make payment through QR code, UPI and other online payment methods while purchasing tickets from the ticket counter.
Under the headquarters’ special ticket checking campaign, he along with ticket checking staff conducted a thorough ticket checking in the economy, air-conditioned, sleeper, chair car, second seating and general coaches of the train. A fine of approximately Rs 37,000 was collected from 65 railway passengers for travelling without ticket.
