715 panchayats unite against drugs, support CM’s action
In a significant boost to the war against drugs launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, 715 panchayats in Amritsar district have unanimously declared their support for actions against individuals involved in drug smuggling, theft and other criminal activities.
Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney expressed her delight at this development, highlighting that the panchayats had been urged to encourage the police to take action against drug smugglers and cooperate with the district administration in eliminating drugs. This initiative is crucial in the fight against drugs, strengthening the village-level resolve to combat this menace.
Panchayats from various blocks in the district have taken strong stances, with resolutions passed in 64 panchayats in Ajnala block, 52 in Attari, 90 in Chogawan, 64 in Harsha Chhina, 48 in Jandiala, 95 in Majitha, 60 in Ramdas, 87 in Raya, 83 in Tarsika and 72 in Verka block, all pledging to create a drug-free Punjab.
The district administration has also launched initiatives to provide free treatment and food to drug addicts at de-addiction and rehabilitation centres. Additionally, plans are underway to build large-scale sports stadiums in villages, offering the youth an opportunity to engage in constructive activities.
This collective effort by the Panchayats, district administration, and the state government is a significant step toward eradicating drug addiction in Amritsar district.
