The Amritsar rural police have arrested two persons and recovered 883 grams of heroin from their possession.
They were identified as Gurpreet Singh and Gursahib Singh, both residents of Cheecha village falling under Gharinda police station here. They were arrested from Khurmania village.
According to police, a patrolling team was going from the peripheral road of Khurmania village to Khasa Bazaar when it spotted two motorcycle-borne persons who tried to slip away by taking a U-turn on seeing the cops. The police team got suspicious and tried to catch them.
During this, their bike slipped and they fell down. A polythene carrying drugs also fell down. The duo was arrested. They were later identified as Gurpreet Singh and Gursahib Singh. The police seized the contraband weighing 883 grams. The police seized the bike bearing the registration number PB-02-EU-9532.
A case under the NDPS Act was registered against them and they were produced in court and brought on police remand for further interrogation.
Police sources said that some names have cropped up during the preliminary probe and the police was making efforts to arrest them. They had hired the duo for delivering the contraband to another party.
