9 farmers booked for stubble burning in district

Tightening the noose around erring farmers indulging in setting afire stubble, the Amritsar Rural Police have registered 11 FIRs on Friday and booked nine farmers in this regard.

Those booked were identified as Resham Singh of Rorawala Kalan village in Gharinda, Jagbir Singh of Bhoewali village, Inderjit Singh of Jhunjh village, Jasbir Singh of Hardoputli village, Balwinder Singh of Pairewal village, Harwinder Singh of Harad Khurd village, Balwinder Singh of Dhulka village, Sarabjit Singh of Sukhewal village and Anoop Singh of Raipur Khurd village.

With this, over 40 farmers have been booked till now in the last one week. They were booked under Section 223 of the BNS for disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant.

The district administration has been on toes and officials were asked to be on the fields to nail the offenders. It has also issued a helpline urging the people to share information about the violators who were burning the crop residue.

The Supreme Court has taken a serious view of the Punjab and Haryana Governments’ failure to take strict action against farmers indulging in stubble burning.

The Deputy Commissioner issued strict instructions to the officials concerned, including nodal officers, and SHOs concerned or beat officers showing negligence in duty. She said they would face legal action in accordance with the recent guidelines of the Air Quality Management Commission (AQMC).
