How do you know when a couple shares genuine chemistry? For Dr Jagdeepak Singh, an eminent ENT surgeon in Amritsar, it was love and respect for his wife, Dr Inderjit Kaur, that inspired him to write her biography while she is still alive. “It’s my way of celebrating her life — her journey as a doctor, as a woman and as a wife,” says Dr Singh of his debut book Qila Kathgarh ki Kali. The book offers a vivid account of Dr Inderjit Kaur’s life, serving as a heartfelt tribute and living memorial to his wife.
Their connection is renowned, highlighted by a “Made for Each Other” certificate awarded in 2010 by the Government Medical College’s student association. Dr Inderjit Kaur, also known as Renu, belongs to the distinguished Kathgarh family established by Sardar Jhanda Singh. A prominent ophthalmologist, she met Dr Jagdeepak at Government Medical College, Amritsar, and they married in 1977. “Our meeting was destined—an inevitable story waiting to unfold. After 45 years together, I remain in awe of her,” he shared. The book includes photographs documenting their journey, their first meeting, wedding, family moments, and professional milestones. In each picture, their togetherness sends an enduring message of love.
“She is the quiet strength in difficult times and the joy that brightens ordinary days,” Dr Jagdeepak reflected. The book was launched by Dr Inderjit Kaur, Director of the All India Pingalwara Charitable Society. Known for his charitable work with Pingalwara, Dr Jagdeepak offers free cochlear implant surgeries to the needy, while Dr Inderjit is a noted eye surgeon. —
