AAP wins 12 out of 13 wards in Khemkaran nagar panchayat

The ruling AAP emerged victorious from four of the five wards of Khemkaran Nagar Panchayat for which elections were held on Saturday. Eight candidates of the AAP have already been declared as elected unopposed for this Nagar Panchayat. In the byelection for one ward, Number 13 (reserved for women) of the Bhikhiwind Nagar Panchayat, Independent candidate Manpreet Kaur has been declared victorious though her family members are AAP workers. She won the election in a four-cornered fight by defeating the AAP, SAD and BJP candidates.

The elected AAP candidates from the Khemkaran Nagar Panchayat are Parkash Kaur (Ward No. 3), Nirmal Singh (Ward No. 8), Manjit Singh (Ward No. 11) and Jagir Singh (Ward No. 13). Independent candidate Bhohar Singh won from Ward No. 6. Bhohar Singh said that he is an AAP activist.

The eight AAP candidates who have been elected unopposed are Shakina (Ward No. 1), Sham Singh (Ward No. 2), Kikkar Singh (Ward No. 4), Parkash Kaur (Ward No. 5), Sukhwinder Kaur (Ward No. 7), Usha Rani (Ward No. 9), Mangat Ram (Ward No. 10) and Arashdeep Kaur (Ward No. 12).

Khemkaran and Bhikhiwind Nagar Panchayats are part of Khemkaran Vidhan Sabha constituency from where AAP’s Sarwan Singh Dhunn is the MLA. Dhunn has thanked the people for supporting the state government’s “pro-people” policies.
