The Goindwal Sahib police have registered a case against activists of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for restoring power supply of defaulter consumers of Powercom.
The police on Friday registered a case against erring leaders under Sections 427, 379, 186, 148 and 149 of the IPC and Section 135 of the Punjab Electricity Act.
It is pertinent to mention here that AAP activists, including its leader Jobanjit Singh Othiana, have launched a campaign to restore the power supply of defaulter consumers whose power connections were cut due to nonpayment of the electricity bills.
The leaders had restored the power supply of Goindwal Sahib, Pindian, Hansawala and many other villages in the last few days. They were of the view that the state government was selling electricity to people at exorbitant rates.
Satnam Singh, SDO (distribution), Khadoor Sahib subdivision, in a complaint to the police alleged that accused Jobanjit Singh along with and other party activists by breaking the locks of the electric boxes restored the power supply of defaulter consumers, who did not pay their bills for over the past few months and their power supply connection was disconnected by officials of the Powercom.
