Amritsar, February 4

A large number of iron grills, installed alongside the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) corridor, has been stolen in the past. Last year, the Municipal Corporation received funds for maintenance and the authorities reinstalled the missing grills on BRTS corridor. However, due to the negligence of authorities, the iron grills have been stolen again. The BRTS management reportedly did not file any complaint against the miscreants who were regularly stealing the iron grills of the corridor.

A local activist claimed that no government agency filed a report against the loss of iron grills on both sides of the BRTS corridor, particularly under the Batala Road flyover.

Parbodh Bali, a local RTI activist, has written to the Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, saying that these grills play a crucial role in providing protection and preventing unauthorised access under the bridge. “No report or information has been provided to the police by the officials responsible for the maintenance and security of this government property. This apparent negligence raises serious concerns about the overall safety and security measures in place. The theft of government property is a criminal offence and those responsible for its security should be held accountable for negligence. I request a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend the individuals behind the theft, appropriate legal action should be taken against government servants found neglecting their duty,” said Bali.

The activist stated that he brought it to the attention of Police Commissioner through the Public Grievance Division of Punjab Police on January 6 but the police didn’t respond. Now, he would initiate formal legal proceedings by filing a criminal complaint in a court of law. “I initiated an online complaint. Regrettably, there has been an alarming lack of expeditious action on the part of the police authorities concerned. I will file a criminal complaint in a court of law in this regard,” added Bali.
