Adequate arrangements made to ensure free, fair poll in Tarn Taran

While the campaigning process concluded on Friday, the administration claimed to have made adequate arrangements for conducting fair and free elections.

District Election Officer (DEO) Kulwant Singh said as many as 908 polling stations, including four auxiliary polling stations, have been set up for four Vidhan Sabha constituencies i.e. Tarn Taran, Patti, Khadoor Sahib and Khemkaran. All 3,632 election officers, presiding officers and polling officers had been appointed and they would depart for polling stations on Saturday.

There are a total number of 8,16,439 voters in the four constituencies. Out of them, 4,26,481 voters are male, 3,89,924 female and 34 of the third gender. The number of service electors is 8,006 which includes 7,841 male and 165 female with no third gender voter.

The Tarn Taran constituency had a total number of 1,96,866 voters, Khemkaran 2,16,090, Patti 2,02,155 and Khadoor Sahib 2,01,328.

The district had a total of 754 electors above the age of 100 years and 5,066 between 90 and 99 years of age.

As many as 1,124 ballot units, 1,119 control units with 1,177 VVPAT had been supplied to Returning Officers concerned.

The DEO said the canvassing stopped at 6 pm on Friday and all persons, who were the residents of other stations, had been instructed to leave the district. Tight security arrangements had been made for fair and free elections. Para-military forces, too, had been called to assist the police.

Quick response teams, too, had been formed in the district. The third randomization of the 4,500 state and Union Government employees with officials of the banks was conducted on Friday, informed the DEO. These officials had been assigned the duty in the polling stations, besides being micro-observers.
