With increasing air pollution posing a serious threat to public health, the district administration has joined hands with the NGO Shape to address environmental and health concerns of the citizens. The district administration and Lung Care Foundation (LCF) will work to check air pollution and address environmental concerns under a mutual agreement.

Medical and environmental experts will be involved in this effort. Giving this information, Assistant Commissioner Gursimran Kaur said, “We will jointly work on the health impact of air pollution, economic burden due to pollution-related diseases, myths and misconceptions surrounding air pollution and practical strategies to protect public health and environment.”

It will involve departments, including rural development, urban development, Municipal Corporation, police, industries, agriculture, education, water, sanitation, health and the DC office secretariat staff. Dr Rajeev Khurrana, Founder-Trustee, Lung Care Foundation, provided insight into the far-reaching consequences of air pollution and the need for immediate intervention.

Dr Shivani Sood, Chairperson, Amritsar Forum for Clean Air, said the time has come to work together to solve the problems. The initiative will contribute to making Amritsar a model city for clean air and sustainable living, she stated while sharing her experience.
