A high-powered committee formed by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to support the rescue and relief work in the flood-affected areas of the district, reached Ajnala today and held a detailed meeting with the teams engaged in the relief work.
Members of the committee include senior IAS officers Kamal Kishore Yadav, Varan Roojam and Basant Garg. Yadav said prompt efforts made by the district administration saved many precious lives and the disaster was bigger than thought but due to the timely activation of the teams, major loss of lives has been saved.
He said after the rescue work, the government wanted to focus on rehabilitation of the people, so all the departments should start planning to work in their respective fields which includes repair of roads, bridges, restoration of power supply, supply of drinking water, medical aid etc. He said for this, they will get full help from the state government. More staff will be deployed if the need will be felt, he added.
Basant Garg ordered the Agriculture Department to work towards the preparation of the coming season and to make arrangements for animal fodder. He said the Animal Husbandry Department should also ensure that the animals do not suffer any harm due to any disease. He said that apart from this, the Food Supply Department should ensure the continuous supply of diesel, petrol and gas in the area and also ensure the supply of essential commodities.
On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney said the district administration has planned to set up a medical camp in the area to prevent water-borne diseases. Apart from this, 20 teams of the veterinary department have been formed, which will be deployed in the area and will work in the care of animals.
All the departments assured that they will be working hard for the rehabilitation of the flood-affected people and efforts will be made to ensure that no one faces any problem.
