AISSF to launch campaign against religious conversion

Two factions of the All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF), once a formidable student organisation in Punjab, merged recently. Kanwar Charat Singh has been appointed president, and he announced that on December 14, a peaceful struggle against religious conversion will be started after paying respects at the Akal Takht.

Former president of the All India Sikh Students Federation and senior Akali leader Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad announced in the presence of former president of the Federation Bhai Manjit Singh that in the past, when he had resigned from the All India Sikh Students Federation, the reins of the organisation were in the hands of Parminder Singh Dhingra. However, some time ago, Dhingra had passed away but he had not appointed a new president.

His faction of the Federation (Peer Mohammad) had formed its 10-member council which after holding its meeting, took the initiative for complete unity in the AISSF, and announced to make Kanwar Charat Singh, nephew of Amrik Singh, who was killed in Operation Bluestar and former president of the AISSF and son of Bhai Manjit Singh, senior vice-president of Shiromani Akali Dal Punar Surjit, the joint president of the All India Sikh Students Federation.

After taking part in the students’ protest at the Panjab University Chandigarh, leaders are attempting to make its resurgence. He announced that the Federation will open its unit in schools, colleges and universities. He also launched a youth awareness movement in schools and colleges, and also contributed to the ongoing struggles like the farmers'' struggle, floods in Punjab, Panjab University struggle etc.
