Various public organisations from Ajnala and nearby villages have announced an indefinite protest outside the Ajnala police station from November 13, demanding justice and action against alleged police corruption, favouritism and misuse of power.

The announcement followed a large and agitated gathering in Ajnala, where residents accused the local police of shielding criminals and neglecting genuine complaints from victims. Protesters alleged that despite several serious criminal cases registered against individuals such as Jaskaran Singh and Gursharan Singh of Kameerpur, Saba Singh of Kacha Dalla, Sukhdev Singh of Jagdev Khurd, Nishan Singh of Chak Dogran, and Rajbir Singh of Baba Gam Chuk, the police had failed to arrest them.

Locals claimed that the accused continued to roam freely and were involved in fresh unlawful activities without fear of the law. The protest meeting was addressed by Dr Satnam Singh Ajnala, state president of Jamhoori Kisan Sabha Punjab; Jagga Singh Dalla of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Naujawan Sabha; Amarjeet Singh Bhindi Saidan of Dehati Mazdoor Sabha; Sarbjit Kaur Jasraur of Women’s Liberation Front; and social activist Prof Malik Singh Gurala. They alleged that Ajnala police had been misleading victims with false assurances and delaying justice for years.

Hundreds of farmers, workers, youth, and women from neighbouring villages are expected to join the agitation on November 13.
