About 100 applicants filled forms to avail benefits of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Amritsar Central Assembly constituency. This was the first camp held here on Wednesday after the state government hiked its share by Rs 75,000 taking the total amount of aid to Rs 2.5 lakh under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

MLA from Amritsar Central Assembly constituency Dr Ajay Gupta organised the camp to provide the benefits of the scheme in his office located at Hathi Gate.

A battery of officials was present at the camp who accepted the filled forms along with the documents.

Dr Gupta said that under the scheme, the needy would be given an amount of Rs 2.5 lakh to lay a concrete roof, room, kitchen and bathroom in the already existing houses. In this, an amount of Rs 1.50 lakh is allotted by the Central government and Rs 1 lakh by the Punjab government.

The camp provided an opportunity to the needy to complete all formalities in the presence of officials. The MLA said that AAP volunteers in the Central constituency would check the antecedents of all those who filled the forms to avail the scheme. He said that he would once again organise a camp after a gap of one month. A list of the number of people who have availed benefit of the scheme will also be released in that camp. MLA Dr Ajay Gupta said that if any needy person is harassed after filling the form, then departmental action will be taken against that official.
