Amritsar cops nab 2 smugglers, seize 4 pistols smuggled from Pak
The Amritsar rural police have busted yet another cross-border weapon smuggling module with the arrest of two persons.
Those arrested were identified as Surjit Singh, alias Gurjit Singh, and Lovepreet Singh, both residents of Saidpur Kalan village under the Bhindi Saida police station in Amritsar. The police seized four 9mm Glock-26 pistols smuggled from Pakistan from their possession. Two mobile phones and a motorcycle (PB-35-AH-4158) were also seized.
Harinder Singh Gill, Superintendent of Police (Investigations), said the police got a tip-off that two persons with their faces covered were going towards the international border on a bike with its registration number plate missing. The informer told them that the suspects had close links with Pakistan-based smugglers.
“We learnt that Pakistani smugglers recently sent a consignment of weapons and drugs using a drone and the suspects had retrieved the same,” the SP said. A police team, led by CIA in-charge Manmeet Singh Sandhu, laid a naka on the Attari road and intercepted them, leading to the recovery of four Pakistani pistols.
A case under the Arms Act was registered against them, the SP said, adding the suspects would be produced in a local court for seeking their remand. They would be interrogated and their links with other smugglers would be investigated, he added.
