The District Language Department has tied up with various city-based artists, writers and scholars of the Punjabi language to create a literary archive that will document information regarding literary personalities from the city. The project, which was initiated earlier this year, will be like creating a knowledge bank on literary personalities from past and present, their body of work and other relevant information.

The research work was initiated by District Research Language Officer Baljit Kaur. The department roped in eminent names like Arvinder Chamak and Kewal Dhaliwal to contribute towards the knowledge banks. Dhaliwal earlier too led a project on creating archives of Punjabi folk artistes as the president of the Punjab Sangeet Natak Akademi.

District Language Officer Dr Paramjit Singh Kalsi has also established Punjabi Bhasha Manch, a platform to promote and develop the Punjabi language. The manch has been hosting several engaging events with eminent Punjabi writers, including Padam Shree Dr Harmohinder Singh Bedi.

The literary directory has currently documented more than 30 writers and scholars. The department has also been actively organizsng literary activities in schools and colleges to promote Punjabi literary classics and engage Punjabi folk artistes for live performances.
