Amritsar: As a part of the ‘Experiential Education’ programme, Spring Dale students on Wednesday got an opportunity to interact with Taranjit Singh Sandhu, former ambassador to the US. Sahiljit Singh Sandhu, Chairman, Spring Dale Educational Society, shared that Taranjit Singh Sandhu has a distinguished diplomatic career spanning over 36 years where he was holding the key positions in the United Nations and the Ministry Of External Affairs. During the interactive session, the former IFS officer tried to bring the focus on India’s resurgence as a global player. “India’s innovative technologies, dynamic educational practices and a value-based Human Resource Development system has changed the perspective about India’s potential in the global scenario. The world community is closely watching while India emerges as a global-player,” said Sandhu. He also highlighted India’s potential to play a key role in the global harmony and regional balance.
Science day celebrated at KCW
The Department of Sciences, Khalsa College for Women (KCW), Amritsar, celebrated National Science Day, 2024, focusing on the theme of “Indigenous Techniques for Viksit Bharat”. The event was supported by Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, National Council for Science and Technology Communication and Department of Science & Technology. The celebrations began with an expert talk by Dr Dalwinder Sharma, a physiotherapist, on the “Side Effects of Junk Food”. Dr Sharma enlightened the students on the benefits of ayurvedic medicines and busted various common myths on consumption of a balanced diet. An expert talk by Prof Atul Khanna, Head of Department of Physics, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, on the topic of “Achievements of Indian Space, Nuclear and Defence Programmes: Challenging Career Opportunities for Science Graduates” was also organised. To conclude the celebrations there was an expert talk on “ICT based Physics Lab” by Dr Dinesh Kumar, Lecturer in Physics, Government Victoria Girls Senior Secondary School, Patiala.
Annual function
Students of Playpen, Nursery and Class II performed at annual function “Reasons to smile” on March 1 at Urvi Auditorium. The children offered a colourful presentation on the theme ‘Reasons to Smile’ in the form of yoga, qawwali, dance and music, all weaved together seamlessly and thoughtfully. Ashok Talwar, Chairman Improvement Trust, Amritsar, graced the morning show as the chief guest and Surinder Singh, Additional Commissioner Municipal Corporation, Amritsar, was the chief guest for the evening show. Principal Pallavi Sethi commended co–curricular incharge Shama Sharma and Cantt incharge Anuradha Grover along with the teachers and staff for their relentless efforts.
Nature Camp concludes
The departments of chemistry and biotechnology of DAV College, Amritsar, organised a three-day nature camp to Harike wetland under the Environment Education Programme from March 3 to 5. The programme is an initiative of Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Chandigarh, supported by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate. On the last day of the camp, Principal Dr Amardeep Gupta explained the significance of wetlands and their protection strategies. At the end of morning session, a yoga camp was conducted.
