A full dress rehearsal was conducted ahead of the Independence Day at Guru Nanak Stadium here today.

Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori specially arrived to inspect it. Various teams of Punjab Police, women’s platoon of the state police, Home Guards, Children’s Police Band of the NCC as well as school bands participated in the parade.

The DC unfurled the Tricolour and took salute from the parade. ADCP Satbir Singh Atwal, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jyoti Bala and Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Paramjit Kaur, SDM Mankanwal Singh Chahal and Assistant Commissioner Gursimran Kaur were also present. Under the leadership of parade commander Maninder Pal Singh, a smart parade was performed.

Students of different schools presented a PT show, a choreography, giddha, bhangra and folk dances on the occasion.

The Deputy Commissioner said on August 15, a district-level Independence Day function would be held in which Gurmeet Singh Khudian, Cabinet Minister, will be the chief guest and hoist the Tricolour. He also invited the residents to participate in the programme. The DC urged people to celebrate the national festival with enthusiasm and rekindle the spirit of patriotism, brotherhood and harmony.

Meanwhile, in a separate programme, cadets of the Amritsar NCC group began the 78th Independence Day celebrations at Jallianwala Bagh. 105 NCC cadets and employees gathered and celebrated the occasion.

The NCC cadets first cleaned the statue of Shaheed Udham Singh and enthusiastically sang patriotic songs that evoked a sense of pride and unity among the guests. Responsibilities of the citizens were highlighted which included ‘unity and discipline’, awareness against drug abuse, sanitation and road safety, urging cadets to lead by example and be vigilant guardians of the nation’s values.

On the occasion, NCC cadets contributed to maintaining cleanliness around the public area. The event concluded with a dynamic awareness rally where each cadet hoisted the National Flag. Decorated with impressive placards and flex boards, the rally addressed the key issues and spread important messages across the community.
