Amritsar holds training to boost maternal, child health

Civil Surgeon Dr Swarnjit Dhawan and District Family Welfare Officer Dr Neelam Bhagat today led a special training on maternal and child healthcare at the office of the Amritsar Civil Surgeon. The one-day session was attended by community health officers as well as para-medical staff.

District Family Welfare Officer Dr Neelam Bhagat said the main objective of the training is to enhance maternal and child health services. Participants received detailed guidance on early registration of pregnant mothers, management of high-risk pregnancies, and postpartum care, with the aim of reducing maternal mortality rates. Additionally, all community health officers were trained on testing for HB, HCV and salt levels for audio screening.

District Health Officer Dr Jaspal Singh and District Epidemiologist Dr Harjot Kaur stated such training sessions would become part of a regular mentorship programme to continually update and strengthen the skills and knowledge of healthcare workers.
