Amritsar: All-India Inter-University Track Cycling Championship commenced today at Guru Nanak Dev University velodrome showcasing the prowess of over 300 talented cyclists from 60 universities. Dr Kanwar Mandeep Singh, in-charge sports, highlighted the day’s competitions, featuring events like 4 km individual pursuit, 3 km individual pursuit, 1 km time trial, 500m time trial, and sprint. In the 4 km individual pursuit final for men, Bilal of Guru Nanak Dev University secured the first position, followed by Mula Ram of Madhav University, Gurnoor of GNDU, and Radhakrishan Godara of Maharaja Ganga Singh University, Bikaner. Women’s 3 km individual pursuit final witnessed Minakshi and Baban Pooja Danole of GNDU clinching the first and second positions, with Parul and Jyoti of Punjabi University, Patiala, securing the third and fourth positions. In the time trial women event, Agashe Shushikala of GNDU claimed the first position, followed by Vimla of LPU in second and Gangotri of GNDU in third place. Meanwhile, in the men’s time trial, Devindra Bisnoi of LPU emerged victorious, with Manju Nathau and Ajay Pal of Punjabi University, Patiala, securing the second and third positions, and Jitender of GNDU securing the fourth position.

CKD nursing college gets new head

Professor Yashpreet Kaur joined as the principal of International Nursing College under the leadership of Chief Khalsa Diwan. Dr Kaur was honoured with a siropa by the vice-president and CKD honorary secretary Savinder Singh Kathunangal. She shared that she would continue to work keeping the improvement and progress of the college in mind and promised to give all kind of support to the college from the management. Principal Yashpreet Kaur thanked everyone and said that they would take all possible efforts for the good of the students.

Food Fest organised

BBK DAV College for Women organised a food fest in which students of the PG Department of Home Science and Fashion Design, along with BVoc beauty and fitness students, showcased a diverse array of culinary delights. During the event, students actively participated in the preparation of food items, including cone pizza, momos, frankie, chatpati tokri, waffles, and fruit cream, all under the guidance of the faculty. The fest commenced with the inauguration by principal Pushpinder Walia, who extended her congratulations to the students and staff for successfully organising the event. In her address, she emphasised the significance of such festivals in promoting awareness about local food and the nutritional value it offers to the students.

Dayanand Saraswati remembered

A special morning assembly was conducted by the students of DAV Public School, Lawrence Road , to pay tribute to the founder of Arya Samaj, Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, on the auspicious day of his birth anniversary. He was one of the most radical socio-religious reformers in Indian history. The students read out excerpts from his inspiring and enlightening life. Poems narrating his inspiring life were recited by the students. Dayanand Saraswati philosopher and visionary opposed child marriage, caste distinction, untouchability, idol worship and animal sacrifice. He published many religious books including ‘Satyaprakash’ which means light to truth.

Girls’ Hostel Evening celebration

The hostellers had a gala time during the Girls’ Hostel Evening Celebration at Khalsa College of Engineering and Technology (KCET). The event was marked by music and dance frenzy and students enjoyed culturally diverse performances. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm and excitement as the participants showcased their skills and creativity. Gur Asees Kaur was chosen as Hostel Evening while Janmeet Kaur was given the title of Ms Charming. Tanisha was chosen as Ms Well Dressed and Suhana as Ms Talented. Most disciplined girl of the hostel title was given to Shivani Singh, while Maimuna Musa and Lorraena Cedric were felicitated for most clean room.
