Amritsar lit fest concludes

Amritsar Literature Festival and Book Fair at Khalsa College concluded today with the message of unity of ‘Allah and Waheguru’.

The day started with discussions on Sikh Diaspora and migration in the state by Harinder Singh, founder, Sikh Research Institute, USA, and Principal Mahal Singh. The discussion was moderated by Dr Hira Singh.

Harinder Singh said Sikhs were a universal community found across the world but due to a few reasons they were being defamed. He said there was a need to collect the right data regarding Sikhs. Principal Singh said people should make political leaders accountable otherwise the state would be ruined.

In another programme the renowned Punjabi singer Bir Singh performed Sufi songs. Satnam Singh Manak, Executive Editor of a vernacular daily was the chief guest at the event. Bir Singh said he felt pride and comfort in visiting Khalsa College as it is in the holy land of Amritsar.

During the concluding session the convener of the fair Atam Singh Randhawa thanked the publishers and sellers who set up stalls and made the fair a success. He also thanked the students and teachers for their participation. Randhawa said more than one crore books had been sold in the fair, which was a positive sign for the ‘Majha Region’.
