Amritsar literature fest ends on a poetic note

The 9th edition of the annual Amritsar Sahit Utsav by Naad Pargas at KCW concluded with a Basant Kavi Darbar featuring noted poets of Punjabi, Dogri, Gojri, Pahari, Bangaru, Rajasthani and Telugu languages. Giving the audience an opportunity to listen to the forgotten dialects of Punjabi at the same time and also other regional languages, the poetry session had noted names like Dr Sarbjot Singh Behal, Salim Tabish, Chaudhary Bilal Zamzam (Gojri poet), Karamchand Kesar (Bangru), Ram Sarup Kisan (Rajasthani), Sushil Begana (Dogri), Keshav Kumar (Telugu), Simrat Gagan, Dr Harpreet Singh, Surinder Singh, Dr Manmohan, Parminder Sodhi, Swaranjit Swai, Vijay Vivek, Bhupinderpreet, Swami Antar Nirav, Surjeet Kaur (Canada) and Bipanpreet.

The session began with Dilruba Vadan (a string instrument) by artist Gursharan Singh, from Bodal Gharana, an illustrious lineage of Sikh musicians known as rababis. The audience including popular singer Rabbi Shergill looked immersed. The annual Word of Honour award by Naad Pargas was given to famous poet Mohanjit, in which he was presented with a medal, Rs 21,000 in cash, shawl and a set of books. Dr Sarbjot Singh Behal, while appreciating the initiative of the institution, said that in the present times, experiments should be conducted to connect the poetic consciousness with earthly consciousness.
