Sharing details, Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that Ravi and Joban had fired outside the residence of a trader in the Division B police station area recently. Though the victim did not lodge any formal complaint with the police, it started investigations and questioned people nearby apart from scanning CCTV cameras to find clues about the perpetrators.

During investigations, the police identified the duo and arrested them. Ravi, who was left-handed, had fired at the residence of the trader’s house while Joban had provided them logistic support and clothes to change after the firing incident. Passing through inside lanes, they escaped to Tarn Taran. One of their accomplices who was riding pillion with Ravi has been identified; raids were on to arrest him. Initial investigations revealed that they had fired outside the trader's residence for extortion at the behest of Prabh Dasuwal.
