Those arrested were identified as Karandeep Yadav (21) alias Karan Bhaiya, Mukesh Kumar (29), and Sajan Singh (24), all residents of Khandwala Chheharta. Police teams have also recovered three mobile phones, apart from 700 Nepali currency notes, from them.

Their roles emerged following investigations and sustained follow-up of backward and forward linkages in the arrest of Joban Singh alias Joban and Gurbaksh Singh alias Lala, who were nabbed with 290 grams of heroin on March 11.

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said that as per preliminary probe, the accused were working on the directions of Pakistan-based BKI mastermind Harwinder Rinda.

“The investigations revealed that Karandeep Yadav had delivered the grenades and weapons that were recovered from Tarn Taran in January this year,” the DGP said.

Tarn Taran Police had arrested four operatives identified as Robinjeet Singh alias Robin, Harpreet Singh alias Happy, Navjot Singh alias Nav, and Jagdeep Singh alias Jagga, and recovered two hand grenades and a pistol from their possession.

“The trio, who originally hailed from Khandwala and Chheharta areas in Amritsar, were arrested from the jurisdiction of Police Station Kumarkhand in Madehpur, Bihar, when they were planning to flee to Nepal,” the DGP said, adding that they were being brought back to Punjab for further interrogation.

Amritsar police commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that in the intelligence-led operation, Chheharta Police, led by SHO Vinod Kumar, arrested the accused from Bihar. He said further investigations are ongoing to establish backward and forward linkages in this case.

Answering media queries over their involvement in the hand grenade blast at a temple on Shershah Suri Road in Khandwala today, Bhullar pointed out that they were not denying at this moment as the three accused live in the same area.

“Karan, who does shuttering work, had one case of supplying hand grenades registered with Tarn Taran police, while other two, Mukesh, who is a disco jokey, and Sajan, a labourer, do not have any previous criminal record,” he said.
