Amritsar Police bust cross-border arms module, arrest key operative

In an intelligence-driven operation, the Amritsar Rural Police have busted a cross-border arms supply module and arrested its key operative, who was allegedly involved in circulating illegal weapons across the region.

The accused, Akashdeep Singh, was apprehended following swift police action. Officers recovered a significant cache of foreign-made firearms, live ammunition and a mobile phone suspected to have been used to communicate with handlers across the border.

The seized weapons include a Star-marked pistol (.30 bore), another .30-bore pistol, a PX5 pistol (.30 bore), a Glock Gen-19 (9mm) and six live .30-bore rounds.

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigations indicate that Akashdeep Singh maintained active links with Pakistan-based smugglers operating through covert communication channels.

Police sources said the module had been attempting to push sophisticated weapons into Punjab to create unrest and strengthen criminal networks.

SP (Investigation) Aditya Warrior said the arrest marked a crucial breakthrough and that efforts were underway to trace the remaining members of the network and map the entire supply chain. Police suspect more consignments may have been routed earlier through similar cross-border channels.
