Amritsar police bust US-based drug smuggling network, seize 23kg heroin
The Amritsar Rural police have claimed to seize a 23-kg heroin consignment from Devi Daspura village in Jandiala. According to Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, preliminary investigation revealed that the consignment is linked to a smuggling network operated by US-based smuggler Jasmit Singh alias Lucky.
The accused, Sahilpreet Singh alias Karan, who retrieved the consignment, has been nominated. Multiple police teams are actively working to arrest him. Further investigation is underway to trace both backward and forward linkages in the smuggling network.
DIG Border Range Satinder Singh said that police teams received a reliable input that Sahilpreet had retrieved a consignment of heroin from across the border. Acting swiftly, teams from the Jandiala police station launched an intelligence operation and seized 23 packets of heroin, weighing 1 kg each, kept in a jute bag from a pinpointed location in Devi Daspura village.
The probe revealed that Sahilpreet was in direct touch with Jasmit Singh, who arranged the consignment. Jasmit Singh has a criminal background, with cases registered against him under the Arms Act and attempt to murder.
A case (FIR 32 dated 4/3/2025) has been registered under Section 21C of the NDPS Act at the Jandiala police station in Amritsar Rural.
