Amritsar: Registrations for admission to undergraduate courses open

GNDU and colleges in the city have opened registrations for admission to undergraduate courses for the session 2022-23. Despite the delay in the results being declared by the CBSE and ICSE, registrations have begun with students from Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir thronging city colleges and the university for enrolment.

“We were the oldest institutions running a bachelor’s course in agriculture studies in city. Khalsa College has 240 seats in BSc Agriculture and for the last few years, there is almost a 50 per cent increase in the number of registrations for the course,” informed Dr Mehal Singh, principal, Khalsa College.
He said 50 per cent of the total registrations received for the agriculture courses are of girls. “There is an increasing trend of girls opting for agriculture-related courses, which is progressive as it provides an opportunity for self-reliance and technical skill education for them,” he said.
Khalsa College conducts entrance examination for the above courses. He informed there is 100 per cent placement in the agriculture-based courses and so high demand for skilled professionals is making freshers seek a career in agro-technology.
GNDU too has been getting registrations for BSc Agriculture as the university started the course a few years ago. Prof SS Behal, Dean, Academic Affairs, GNDU, said agriculture-related courses are among the most popular undergraduate courses currently.
“We have a lot of registrations for agriculture and mass communications, two of the relatively new courses that the university has been offering. Apart from the traditional science and commerce stream courses, these two departments have seen such a surge in demand that university conducts entrance exam for admission to these courses,” said Prof SS Behal. The university has 40 seats in BSc agriculture and 30 in BA Mass Communication and the admission is through entrance examination.
Giving a push to job-oriented learning in the field of agriculture, GNDU has also recently set up Agri-Innovation and Research Centre.
DAV College that has always been popular choice for outstation students, especially from Jammu and Kashmir, too has seen a high demand for BSc IT and BA Journalism and Mass Communication. Although the college does not conduct any entrance examination for admission to these courses, this time the college is offering special scholarships for meritorious students from SC/ST category. Similarly, BBK DAV College too has been receiving maximum registrations for IT and media-related courses.
