Amritsar rural police were put on alert after they received a bomb threat call at the police control room here on Sunday.

The caller, who turned out to be a jail inmate, threatened to blow up Tarsikka police station.

SSP Amritsar rural Charanjit Singh said the police had identified the caller who is lodged in a jail.

He said a case had been registered. He said the accused would be brought on a production warrant from jail for further investigation.

"We have also informed the jail administration so that they can recover the phone from which he made the call," he said.

Earlier, the Tarsikka police station was put on alert and the police force from nearby stations was rushed there. A search operation was carried out.
