Amritsar: Scholarships given to needy students

Amritsar: On behalf of the Shaheed Madan Lal Dhingra Memorial Committee and Mata Kanya Kalyan Samiti, scholarships were given to children from economically weaker families at Shaheed Madan Lal Dhingra Memorial in Golabagh on Wednesday. The assistance was given to more than 250 students, including 36 students of Laxmi Narayan Sanskrit College, about 150 children of employees of the Durgiana Committee and more than 100 children from other schools of the city. Laxmi Kanta Chawla, former cabinet minister, said an appeal is made to the people of Amritsar to also contribute at least once a year for the education of these children. “Educating and inculcating good values in children is the real service of Mother India,” she said.

Air cooler donated to school

Amritsar: Phulkari WOA donated an air cooler to Saksham, a school being run for children with special needs, by Bhavans Aashray. A school dedicated to educating and empowering special children, Phulkari WOA has been associated with Saksham since 2022. Phulkari president Sheetal Sohal said the purpose behind the donation is to provide some respite to students in these days of extreme heat. She reiterated the organisation’s commitment to Saksham in whatever capacity possible to empower special children. On the occasion, the Phulkari WOA president said they would hold ‘art and cooking workshops’ in the near future for Saksham students.

Sports Day Celebrated

World Police Champion Harpreet Singh Billa, an alumnus of the Prabhakar School, laid emphasis on the need of sports education as he addressed the annual sports day at the school. Students of the school participated in various athletics events and wrestling. Recalling his memories of school time, he called on students to participate in any game of their choice alongside studies. The students were given tips of basic fitness exercises by him and school principal Rajesh Prabhakar thanked Harpreet Singh for giving tips on good health and importance of sports. Winners of various events were given medals on the occasion.
