Anti-dengue campaign initiated in Amritsar
The district Health Department has initiated an anti-dengue campaign to raise awareness about the disease and prevent its spread. Civil Surgeon Dr Kirandeep Kaur emphasised the importance of community participation in stopping mosquito breeding, particularly during the rainy season when water accumulation can lead to mosquito breeding.
The Civil Surgeon appealed to the public to support the department’s efforts by taking certain precautions. “Every Friday, residents should check their homes for potential mosquito breeding sites, such as coolers, refrigerators and water tanks,” she said. It is essential to avoid collecting water in pots, tanks and other containers that can become breeding grounds for mosquitoes, she said.
District Epidemiologist Dr Harjot Kaur provided more information about dengue fever, stating that it is a viral disease caused by the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Symptoms include severe headache, high fever, muscle and joint pain, and bleeding from the nose, mouth and gums. She advised residents to seek immediate medical attention at government hospitals if they suspect dengue fever.
As part of the campaign, ASHA workers and paramedical staff were trained to spread awareness and take preventive measures.
The campaign was attended by various officials, including Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr Rajinder Pal Kaur, District Family Welfare Officer Dr Neelam Bhagat and District Immunisation Officer Dr Bharti Dhawan.
