Amritsar: Two armed persons allegedly looted a car at gunpoint from Majitha Road Bypass here late Thursday evening. The victim was identified as Lakshay Kumar Yadav. Lakshay stated to the police that at around 8 pm he was returning home on his car. He stopped his car near a filling station after an injured dog came on the road. He said he stopped the car and moved the dog on the road side. He said as he was going to sit in the car, two persons came and pointed a pistol at him. They threatened to shoot asking him to step aside. They fled away his car PB-02-DK-7696. Following his complaint, the police have registered a case under Section 379-B (2) of the IPC and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act against unknown persons. Police authorities said they were analysing the CCTV cameras on the route to identify the suspects. TNS
Daily train to Patna sought
Amritsar: City residents, particularly Sikh devotees, are a harried lot as there is only one bi-weekly train, Akal Takht Sahib Express, between Amritsar and Patna. In addition, two trains, Amritsar Howrah Express and Amritsar Howrah Mail, have halt points at the Patna railway station. Kulwant Singh Ankhi of Amritsar Vikas Manch said there was a need for daily train between Amritsar and Patna. Yogesh Kamra said trade ties between Amritsar and Patna were strong. Locally manufactured textile such as suiting shirting, female fabrics, shawls, tweeds, blazers and blankets were in demand in Patna. TNS
4 women held for robbery
Amritsar: The Kotwali police have nabbed four Jammu and Kashmir women for allegedly pickpocketing devotees visiting the Golden Temple. Those arrested were identified as Mubeena, Mumtaz Begum, Rabeena and Sayra, all residents of Baramulla. Complainant Veerpal Kaur alleged that she was standing in a queue to pay obeisance at the sanctum sanctorum, when the accused allegedly stole her purse, which contained Rs4,000 cash. The incident came to light when CCTV cameras in the vicinity were analysed. A case under Sections 379, 411 and 34 of the IPC has been registered. TNS
