Armed robbery case solved, four arrested with looted cellphones

The Maqboolpura police have arrested four robbers who had shot at a youth and looted his laptop and two expensive iPhones in Guru Teg Bahadar Nagar area here on Monday.

The victim, identified as Harmandeep Singh of Guru Ram Das Nagar, Surta Singh Road, Kot Khalsa, had suffered a gunshot injury on the right knee. He was accompanying his friend Harpreet Singh of the same area when the incident took place.

Those arrested were identified as Rajpal Singh, alias Raja, Robin Singh and Sumit Sharma, all residents of Bhalla Colony in Chheharta, and Lucky of New Ranjitpura locality in Chheharta. The police recovered a pistol, a bullet and an empty shell from their possession. A case under Section 308 (4) of the BNS and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act was registered against them.

Complainant Harpreet Singh told the police that he had shared the details of his iPhone for sale on OLX and on July 8, he got a call from man who showed interest in buying the phone. He said a meeting was fixed on the backside of the Saragarhi government school in Guru Teg Bahadur area.

He said he along with his friend Harmandeep reached the spot on his scooter where two youths were standing. He said as they reached there, two more bike-borne persons reached there. He said the accused immediately took out a pistol and shot at Harmandeep Singh. He suffered a gunshot injury on his right knee. They snatched his laptop and two iPhones and fled the spot.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Harpreet Singh Mander said probing the case from every angle, the police identified the suspects Rajpal, Robin, Sumit and Lucky. They were arrested by police teams on Wednesday. They were produced in a court and brought on police remand for further investigations.

He said Sumit had two criminal cases of dacoity and theft and under the Arms Act in Ludhiana while Robin was wanted in one case of snatching.
