Amritsar: Damanpreet Kaur, a student of Class XII of Ashok Vatika Public School, was honoured by Sahodaya School Complex at Cambridge International School. She received an award for her sincerity and consistent hard work from chief guest Ajay Gupta, Amritsar Central MLA. Students from various schools were awarded the ‘Gem of Sahodaya’ award for excellence in academics and co-curricular activities. The chief guest praised the award-winning students for their success and spoke about the great deeds of the four Sahibzadas. School principal Anchal Mahajan congratulated Damanpreet for her achievement.

SVEEP activities conducted

District Election Officer Amandeep Kaur, who is also Additional Deputy Commissioner Urban Development and Electoral Registration Officer, carried out a voter awareness activity for students and voters in the Amritsar Central constituency. The new voter registration process was explained to college students with the aid of an EVM demonstration van. The van has been set up with the purpose of registering new voters online and to encourage eligible voters to take part in the electoral process. Regular SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation programme) activities are being conducted in all colleges and institutes to make the students aware of the importance of voting.

Entrepreneurship programme

Jalandhar: Startup Punjab is organising a five-week entrepreneurship orientation programme, under the Department of Industries and Commerce of the state government. The event is being held in collaboration with Dr Stya Paul Centre for Excellence in Innovation, Start-ups, and Entrepreneurship and the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of Apeejay Institute of Management and Engineering. The inaugural session started with a lecture by Dr BP Gupta, a seasoned entrepreneur, corporate trainer and motivational speaker with over 26 years of experience in both industry and academia. His lecture was a cornerstone of the event, offering valuable insights into the essence of entrepreneurship. The lecture emphasised that entrepreneurs must be independent, capable of taking risks, and possess innovative thinking.

PCM SD College

The NSS unit and Swami Vivekananda Studies Centre and Department of Fine Arts celebrated National Youth Day at PCM SD College, under the tutelage of Pooja Prashar, principal. The event was a tribute to the ideals and teachings of Swami Vivekananda, emphasising the importance of youth in nation-building. Various activities were organised to connect and mould the thinking of the young generation according to the ideology of Swami Vivekananda. Poster-making and speech competitions were also conducted. On the occasion, NSS Programme Officers Sunita Bhalla and Manmeet Kaur discussed how young people can evolve their thinking by taking inspiration from Swami Vivekananda’s dynamic personality and embrace values of resilience, compassion, and selfless service.

Capacity-building programme

In an effort to promote a culture of ongoing learning and research excellence, the Research and Development Cell, working with the Postgraduate Department of Computer Science of DAV College, Jalandhar, held a capacity-building programme on Google Scholar. The programme began with a detailed PowerPoint presentation outlining the capabilities and features of Google Scholar. The purpose of the event was to equip the scholars with the knowledge needed to improve their research endeavours and use Google Scholar efficiently. Principal Rajesh Kumar was the chief guest. He exhorted the faculty members to get more involved in research and stressed the value of building their research profiles for institutional and individual improvement. The head of the PG Department of Computer Science, Dr Nischay Bahl, served as the event’s resource person.

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya celebrated National Voters’ Day, wherein an inter-college competition was organised by the Department of Political Science in collaboration with the district administration under SVEEP. The event began with an address by Dr Atima Sharma Dwivedi, principal. She apprised the students of their duties as a voter, especially those going to vote for the first time. A declamation contest on voter awareness was organised, and more than seven colleges from Jalandhar participated in the event. Tushar (DAV College) was the winner while Shivam (Guru Nanak Dev University campus, Ladhewali) finished second. Muskan (DAV College, Jalandhar) secured the third position while seven students were awarded consolation prizes.

Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya

Students of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya brought laurels to the institution by clearing CA Inter Exam. Muskan Jagpal of BCom (Sem V) cleared CA Inter Group II and Ridhima Mahotra and Gurleen Kaur, students of BCom (Sem III) cleared CA Inter Group I. Principal Ajay Sareen congratulated Meenu Kohli, head of department, faculty members and students for the achievement.
