Amritsar: An ASI, identified as Satnam Singh, of the Amritsar rural police, was shot at by two unidentified armed persons at Talwandi Ghuman village here on Sunday. He was waiting for his wife Satinder Kaur on a bike when the accused came and tried to snatch his purse. When he resisted their attempt, they shot at him. He suffered injury on his thigh.
He told the police that he had gone to pick up his wife at the Talwandi Ghuman bus stop. He said two unidentified youths came from the Jaintipur side and stopped near him enquiring about the route. He said the pillion rider took out a pistol and pointed at him asking to hand over his purse. He said he resisted their attempt which led to a scuffle. He said he caught one of the accused, but his accomplice shot at him which hit his thigh. He said in the meantime his wife came there and raised an alarm following which the accused fled from the spot. He was rushed to a private hospital.
The police have registered a case under Sections 392 (robbery) and 397 (using weapon in robbery) of the IPC and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act against unidentified robbers. The police said CCTV cameras in the area were being analysed for finding some clues about robbers.
