Assassination bid on Sukhbir Badal: SGPC demands Akal Takht to ‘expel’ Chaura from Panth
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Monday appealed the Akal Takht to initiate ‘Panthic’ action against pro-Khalistan activist Narain Singh Chaura, who attempted an assassination bid on former Punjab deputy CM and SAD leader Sukhbir Singh Badal outside the Golden Temple premises on December 4.
The submission was finalised during an emergency meeting of the 13-member executive body headed by SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami at SGPC headquarters on Monday.
Dhami said that a representation has been handed over to Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh, seeking expulsion of Chaura from the Panth.
“The incident (assassination bid on Sukhbir) needs to be scrutinised thoroughly. SGPC executive has formed a four-member committee to scrutinise all the aspects of the incident and submit a report within three weeks,” he said.
The SGPC chief also condemned the state government for not conducting a thorough inquiry into the incident.
